Timballo, made famous by the 1996 film Big Night (known there as ‘timpano‘), is an impressive dome-shaped baked pasta dish dating back to the Renaissance, where it was first served at the Medici daughters’ weddings. Each region of Italy has its own take on this savory pie: in Abruzzo, crêpes instead of pasta are used as the base, and in Sicily they are made with pasta and eggplant.
